Digital Editor (Arabic Language), Harper’s Bazaar Arabia

ITP Consumer Publishing is looking for an ambitious and talented Arabic language Digital Editor to drive, manage and lead the online and social media presentation of the key and secondary Harper’s Bazaar brands (five in total) plus Best Dressed special edition, across web for desktop and mobile platforms, also working in collaboration with Marketing and Editorial and reporting to the Publishing Director.

Key responsibilities:

• To work closely with the teams across the entire Bazaar brand portfolio, which includes, but is not limited to, ART, Interiors, Junior, Bride, Qatar, The Arabic Edition and Best Dressed, as well as events and marketing, to ensure that each is being presented to its full digital potential, and leading them into thinking about digital representation at every editorial, marketing and commercial opportunity.
• To manage the workload and upload process of the Arabic language version of HarpersBazaarArabia.com on a daily basis, and the relevant social media platforms. Help source and manage freelance media specialists for key digital projects.
• To sub and edit translated content from the English language site for the Arabic language site.
• Must have experience in Arabic language and be able to create and write bespoke regional content in Arabic.
• Source and manage influential contributors and columnists from the surrounding area.
• Confidence to take the initiative and work with a small team and be prepared to work long hours to reach tight editorial and commercial deadlines when needed.
• A working knowledge of basic content management systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and/or Drupal is essential. A fair knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is preferable.
• To respect the editorial integrity and international guidelines of the brands when producing online content.
• To understand and work within the commercial realities of publishing in the Middle East and the pressures of the current climate.
• To work closely with Hearst Media International HQ in NYC, as well as working in line with their international brand guidelines, and managing necessary approvals on local content from international Hearst offices, e.g. cover stories for web.

Additional skills required:

• Creative flair that continually produces engaging stories for users / readers
• Structured, scheduled content management
• Brand and product development to support digital projects
• Ability to work well under pressure and maintain high attention to detail
• Sensitivity to the specific requirements and cultural considerations presented by this region
• A very good understanding of media and the media market place, but not defined by it, and most definitely able to think outside its traditional parameters
• The understanding that to survive in the current market, Harper’s Bazaar is to be perceived as a brand supported by various products and platforms rather than simply a magazine supported by website

Desired profile:

The type of candidate who will be successful in this role is someone who understands media as a whole, but is specifically experienced in digital launches and must have a minimum of two years' experience at Digital Editor level on a product, title or brand focussed on women’s luxury lifestyle or fashion. Crucially, they must be flexible and have a can-do, positive attitude which shows they are respectful, responsible and dedicated, and by default demonstrate passion, brand understanding and leadership.

We are looking for someone who is dynamic, proactive, and tenacious and likes to work in a multicultural environment. The individual needs to be accountable, socially smart, savvy and inquisitive, and extremely organised, using their own initiative and communication skills – and work well within a small, talented team.

Additional information:

Reporting to the Digital Content Director, the Arabic language Digital Editor will manage a daily upload system that encompasses marketing collateral (newsletters, events and commercial competitions) plus any freelance image/video support required for specific projects or busy periods.

Candidates should appreciate that the role is office based, located within ITP Head Office in Dubai Media City, however travel on key projects may be required. Official hours are 9:00am – 6:00pm however out of hours work is expected on occasion, making up for quieter periods. ITP Business is searching for an Editor to take the helm of its business-to-business hospitality website, www.hoteliermiddleeast.com.

The website is the pre-eminent source of regional news and intelligence for the Middle East’s hotel and restaurant operators, and is the digital partner of the market-leading magazines Hotelier Middle East, Caterer Middle East and their respective events and awards programmes.

The Editor must possess outstanding writing and subbing skills, be passionate about all things digital (social media included), have a proven track record in managing and growing online communities and the ability to improve the site’s search rankings using SEO.

The ideal candidate must have solid experience producing compelling business copy, have at least two years’ experience on B2B websites, possess an enthusiastic and outgoing personality, and finally, enjoy a challenge.

Knowledge of the Middle East hotel and catering industries would be an advantage, but is not necessary for a candidate with the right skills and attitude.

The role is permanent, full-time and based in the tax-free coastal city of Dubai.

Art Director, Architectural Digest

 Architectural Digest is looking for a talented and highly motivated art director to join its editorial team, based in Dubai.

The successful candidate will be a top-flight, dynamic designer and director with several years of luxury consumer magazine and editorial experience at a senior level. Experience in interior design or fashion related titles is essential. You will be responsible for the overall look and feel of the magazine, working at both a big-picture conceptual level and day-to-day design and execution, working closely with the editor in chief, as well as liaising with the picture editor and other staff.

We are looking for someone with a passion for design, architecture and fashion, who can deliver high-quality, eye-catchingly creative work in a pressurised environment. The candidate must also be articulate, self-motivated and able to manage their workload effectively. A thorough knowledge of Adobe CS (InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop) is essential and experience of video-editing packages and DPS is advantageous.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • To design and art direct the magazine’s covers, features and sections, and associated products, working alongside our editors.
  • To create innovative concepts for shoots, sourcing and commissioning photographers, stylists and illustrators.
  • To maintain design standards across Architectural Digest Middle East and ensure that production deadlines are met.
  • To support the editorial team, by checking proofs and liaising with production and repro.

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Demonstrate previous experience working on a leading publishing brand as a hands-on designer and innovative art director.
  • Experience in interior design or fashion titles.
  • A portfolio that’s full of creative ideas and beautifully executed projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of magazine design, photography and typography as well as a passion for the industry.

Picture Editor, Condé Nast Traveller Middle East & Architectural Digest Middle East

Condé Nast Traveller Middle East and Architectural Digest Middle East – the GCC’s leading luxury travel lifestyle magazine and the region’s premier architecture & design magazine – are looking for a Picture Editor to join their Dubai-based team.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience as a picture editor, ideally on an international magazine in the luxury lifestyle space. A diploma or degree in photography and other visual media is a strong advantage.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, hardworking, meticulously organised and efficient, able to stay calm under pressure and balance their work across two titles and any supplemental extensions. Proven ability to produce excellent photo research to tight deadlines and within small budgets is essential, as is a creative eye for what works best on the page. Excellent negotiation skills are required to secure the best exclusive pictures.

A team player, the ideal candidate will bring with them a tried-and-tested list of contacts with international photographers in the luxury, travel, lifestyle, fashion, design and interiors spaces. Experience in producing shoots – from afar and on the ground – is essential. Familiarity with managing budgets and performing administrative tasks is a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Picture research, via libraries, photographers and any other source, including rate negotiation, administering picture usage records and supplying picture credit information.
  • Production of shoots, which includes sourcing talent, negotiating rates, coordinating logistics, providing a call sheet and, when required, managing things on the ground. 
  • Working with the company picture desk or photographers on post-production or retouching on images.
  • Coordinating and managing the Condé Nast syndications process across the two magazines.
  • Handling contracts and invoicing, with a keen eye on the budget.

Senior Sales Manager Time Out Dubai

ITP Consumer Publishing is looking for Maternity leave cover for two positions on the leading luxury women’s editorial brand in the Middle East, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. The two roles required are:

1) Acting Editor
2) Acting Deputy Editor

Role Summary:

Acting Editor, 1st August 2016 through to 31st March 2017

• Responsible for subbing all content across all Harper’s Bazaar Arabia platforms and brand extensions. Producing My List, This Month, Escape, Your Life section of the magazine and other features and news as required.
• Full editing responsibility for Harper’s Bazaar Qatar, Harper’s Bazaar Bride and Harper’s Bazaar Junior.
• Supporting the editor-in-chief and acting editor-in-chief in all matters of content generation, syndication, commercial opportunities and magazine production.

Between September 2016 and Mid-January 2015:
• In the absence of the editor-in-chief and acting editor-in-chief, serving as acting editor on Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
• In the absence of the editor-in-chief and acting editor-in-chief assuming responsibility for planning, producing and executing Harper’s Bazaar Arabia core magazine plus brand extensions and supplements.
• In the absence of the editor-in-chief and acting editor-in-chief, assuming responsibility for sending all magazines scheduled within this timeframe to press on time, to budget and accurately.

Acting Deputy Editor, Mid-September 2016 through to Mid-January 2017

• Responsible for subbing all content across all Harper’s Bazaar Arabia platforms and brand extensions. Producing My List, This Month, Escape, Your Life section of the magazine and other features and news as required.
• Supporting the acting editor in all matters of content generation, syndication, commercial opportunities and magazine production.
• Full editing responsibility for Harper’s Bazaar Qatar, Harper’s Bazaar Bride and Harper’s Bazaar Junior.

 

Key responsibilities for both roles:
• Creating and running the flatplan for Harper’s Bazaar and all associated supplements and brand extensions.
• Planning and overseeing the execution of all editorial content.
• Selecting relevant syndicated content.
• Commissioning, briefing and producing local content.
• Ensuring all editorial content is relevant, accurate and engaging for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s readership of primarily GCC Arab women aged 30-60.
• Writing coverlines and working on the cover design with the creative director.
• Sending the magazine, supplements and brand extensions to press on time and to budget.
• Managing the Harper’s Bazaar Arabia editorial team.
• Working with the commercial and publishing teams to execute their requirements.
• Representing the brand at events for fashion, beauty and otherwise whenever relevant.


Skills required for both roles:
• Flatplan management
• Content planning

• Celebrity interviewing
• Subbing and sending magazine to press
• Ability to create beautiful, relevant, engaging covers
• Precise understanding of the Harper’s Bazaar Arabia reader and what content engages her across news, fashion, beauty and features

Desired profile:
We are looking for individuals with proven experience as a very senior section editor, deputy editor or higher level on an international print magazine or newspaper with proven ability to plan, produce and execute multiple editorial products to exemplary standards and tight deadlines.

Candidates will also need to:

• Possess at least five years’ experience in similar roles
• Be fluent in English – both oral and written

Additional Information:
The role is a full time position based in ITP’s Dubai Media City office and will involve working directly with the Publishing Director and the Commercial Director. The core business working hours are Sunday – Thursday 9-6pm, however flexible working ethics are expected. The final package will be determined based on level of experience.
